The Foundation provides annually grants to scientists with research experience, especially for research aimed at a doctoral thesis and for postdoctoral research. The intention is to enable scientists to work as fulltime researchers, free from the need of other forms of gainful employment.

In 2024 the total sum of grants provided was 254 000 €.

The Maud Kuistila Foundation presents also annually the Maud Kuistila Award to a merited teacher of scientists in the field of medicine. The purpose of the award is to highlight the impact that teachers of scientists have for retaining and developing the tradition of high-standard medical research in Finland. The Award is presented to the winner in January in connection with the annual Finnish Medical Convention (Lääkäripäivät - Läkardagarna).
