Research grants
The Foundation provides annually grants to scientists with research experience, especially for research aimed at a doctoral thesis and for postdoctoral research. The intention is to make it possible for scientists to work as fulltime researchers, free from the need of other forms of gainful employment. In 2023 the total sum of grants provided was 220 000 €.
The grants are personal stipends to allow for fulltime research over an extended period of time, typically for 3 - 6 months. The sum of the monthly stipend is approximately 2 000 €. The maximum annual sum of the monthly stipend is equal to the tax-exempted annual artist's grant in Finland. The successful applicant is required to work under conditions appropriate for his or her research.
The Foundation has also provided personal grants for an extended period of time to scientists for training abroad and for medical research in foreign universities and research centers.
Travel grants are not provided, nor are grants provided for research expenditures (apparatus, reagents etc.).
